How our Thermodynamic Magic Box works

British engineered, works worldwide

It can be best described as ‘A Fridge in reverse’. Most people understand that the panel on the back of their fridge is a factor in keeping its contents cold. Reversing this principle by using an aluminium collector (panel) to absorb heat rather than reject heat, allows us to utilise the ambient air temperature, day and night in all weather conditions to change the refrigerant liquid circulating through the panel from a liquid to a gas form.

This changing the state of the refrigerant allows us to capture energy. The returning refrigerant now in gas form is then compressed and passed through the heat exchanger within the Thermodynamic Solar Assisted Heat Pump where the water from the cylinder is brought to the other side of the heat exchanger and the heat from the refrigerant is passed to the water until it reaches 55°C, it is then passed back into the hot water storage cylinder ready for use.

The benefits of our Thermodynamic Magic Box

  • When installing the Solar Assisted Heat Pump, the Thermodynamic panel can be installed on the wall or roof.
  • Retro fits to an existing cylinder
  • Compatible with both vented and un-vented systems
  • Tested proven technology works throughout the year, day and night
  • Minimum maintenance required
  • Heats water to 55°C

Why chose a Thermodynamic box over a solar thermal system?

Solar Assisted Heat Pump – Thermodynamics Traditional solar Thermal
System works day and night (24hrs) Requires direct sunlight – only works in the day
Works down to -20 Celsius Won’t work at freezing temperatures
Provides 100% of your hot water requirements Provides 30% of annual hot water
Constantly heats water throughout the day, night and all seasons whenever you want it Heats water in the summer during the height of day when it is not needed
Black panel can be fitted on any aspect of the property. Even the loft if it is a listed building Panels must be fitted to a south facing roof
Panel weighs 7kg Heavier panels – damaging roof
Highly durable roll bond aluminium panel Glass tubing making panel fragile
Can be fitted to a wall Must be installed on a roof
Both sides of panel absorb energy Less sun absorption area
Sealed system with R134a gas Required Glycol top-up
No maintenance Requires high maintenance
Installation complete in one day Requires scaffolding to fit panels + longer instillation
